A question from Scott Royall prompted me to find out more about the forum membership categories. You will have noticed that everyone has been classified as a "Junior Member". Why?

Well, this was done automatically by the software that runs this Forum (vBulletin). The categories are based on the number of posts a member makes. The default settings are these:

"Junior member" = 0 – 29 posts
"Member" = 30 – 99 posts
"Senior member" = 100> posts

Like Scott, I am unhappy with the settings. The postings limits seem to be quite unrealistic for this forum.

After a bit of digging, I found out that the settings can be edited by the administrator (me). At this point, I'm still thinking about it, but I'll be adjusting them downward or possibly eliminating them.

I'd also like to change the category names, if something better comes to mind. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I just sent you an email then I realized I should have written it here. I noticed that you changed the classifications. What criteria did you use for the new descriptions?
By the way, I am a whorable speller. Is there a spell checker that we can use with this program?

Scott,

No one made any suggestions, so I jumped in and chose these names and parameters:

Member = 0 or 1 posts
Active Member = 2 -10 posts
Major Contributor = 11 or more posts

You will notice I removed the "Junior" status, to avoid the appearance of any discrimination ;)

These are set simple and low, as we are just beginning. I may decide to make adjustments some time in the future.

Thanks for the explaination. I was wondering if the pros(guys with FAA letters behind their names) were getting special recognition. For what it's worth, I like what you came up with.

On another subject: Is there a spell checker associated with this software?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott:

Misspelled words are underlined in red. Just right click on the underlined word and you will get suggestions for a correction just like in Microsoft Word.

Thanks Keith. Mine wasn't working the way yours does. But I just noticed the ABC check mark in the upper right hand corner of the this reply window. It allowed me to download ieSpell. It seems to work pretty well.
