The Fly-In Schedule, by WAMM President Michael Harms

Good Morning "Mooney Miters",

If your calendar doesn't already have May 14-16 blocked out, do it now. The Mooney Mite Fly-In and Camp Out is coming!!! Actually, the "Camp Out" part may be a misnomer, but the "Fly-In" part is accurate. We're talking about less than a month here.

Since the de-facto Main Event at our Fly-In is eating (just count the number of photos taken inside versus outside restaurants), I offer the following suggestions for the next Mooney Mite Fly-in at Porterville, CA. I also suggest it because some of the guys are getting pretty old and crotchety and they want to know what they’ll be doing every minute of every day, until they get back to “The Home”.

Thursday May 13 “Early Bird” Arrival Day. This day is for those people who don’t have a boss to please. They are called “Retired” and include almost everybody but me (and a few others). If they are NOT retired they probably took this day off as “Sick Leave”.

Activities - Wonder aloud who’s coming; Renew old friendships; Hangar Flying
Breakfast:
Lunch: Alice’s Restaurant, Cotton Center
Dinner: La Fuente Mexican Restaurant, downtown Porterville.

Friday May 14 “Normal” Arrival Day. This day is for those people who can skip out of work a little early. They are using “Comp Time”. Or they are using imaginative reasoning like: “I came in LAST Friday, so…”.

Activities - Greet new arrivals; Renew old friendships; Visit Porterville Almonds
Breakfast: Airport Café, PTV Airport
Lunch: El Charro Tapatio, 2405 S. Main St (east of PTV)
Dinner: Randy’s Pasta Steak & Seafood, 1549 W Olive Ave

Saturday May 15 “Late” Arrival Day. This day is for those people who can convince their wife that they are too sick to clean the garage today (or that they cleaned it LAST Saturday). In some cases their photo at the Fly-In will have to be taken quickly because they didn’t get an “overnight pass”.

Activities - Dawn Patrol (see below); Static Display; Hangar Flying
Breakfast: Jenny Lynn’s Café, 670 S. Plano St
Lunch: Rustler’s Steakhouse & Saloon, Highway 190
Dinner: Pizza Hut, 276 W Henderson Ave
Ice Cream: Rite Aid, 66 W Morton Ave

Sunday May 16 “Very Late” Arrival Day. This day is for those people who can arrive in the EARLY morning because everybody will be gone after Lunch. Of course, if they arrive later they can sift through the great memories and Hangar Talk that will still be floating around in the breeze in front of Bill’s hangar.

Activities - Wrap up and say goodbye; promise to “Keep The Mites Flying”
Breakfast: Perko’s Koffee Kup, 1025 W Henderson Ave.
Lunch: Airport Café, PTV Airport
Dinner: at Home, (you know where you live)

Dawn Patrol (Saturday, May 15th)

Proposed itinerary - Porterville and Success Lake; breakfast at General Fox.
Participants: Scott Lewis, N4096, Michael Harms, N201MM, Ed Mandibles, N325M, Larry Minch, N4187.
